What do we do?

We’re an online Romance Publishing House. What we do is we create the plot for a book, the scene-by-scene analysis, and all that’s needed for a book to be written. Then we hire a writer to write the book for us. The writer delivers the book in parts, and each time a part is delivered, we give our feedback and our requests for corrections. Then the book goes through two editing processes until all mistakes and errors have been fixed. After the content of the book is finalized, we create the title, the blurb, and finally, the cover. And lastly, we publish it online and promote it!

Job Description

High Quality is our main value, so you will need to be thorough and with attention to detail. Make us think you’re an 11, on a scale of 1 to 10.

So here’s what we will ask of you:

  • Check for grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors.
  • Make sure the writing is qualitative and propose early any re-writing needed.
  • No plagiarism, only original work. Any content proposed should be 100% original.
  • Line editing, refining the arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences and smooth-transitioning paragraphs.
  • Creative/Developmental editing: we will trust you to catch any inconsistencies (historical or story-related), and plot holes.
  • Good Knowledge of the niche/genre. If you aren’t familiar with the regency era and/or historical romance in general, please DON’T APPLY.
  • We can’t stress high quality enough! The final content needs to captivate the reader and make her/him relate to the characters. This can only happen thanks to your constructive feedback.

Some more info about the things you’ll be doing:

Edit:

→ Catch inconsistencies/plot holes and fix them
→ Line edit to make sure the writing flows correctly and is easy to read
→ From a reader’s perspective: If there’s something that annoys you, if the character is unlikable, for example, consult with the publisher in case you need to do some minor re-writing
→ Are the settings/dialogues/steamy scenes convincing? If not, consult with the team in order to decide if something needs fixing.

Proofread:

→ fix typos, grammar & syntax mistakes
→ check tense consistency
→ fix time/place/name inconsistencies
→ fix words, people, works of art that are too modern for the era
→ catch the wrong way of addressing people from the ton (Regency) / mistakes in brogue (Scottish)
→ wrong use of words in places that another word would fit better.

Compensation

  • For the first 15 manuscripts (of 80,000 words each) the payment will be $200 per manuscript.
    • This is because you’re still on training/evaluating period, and we’ll have to give extra time and attention in order to guide you on how to produce a good manuscript according to the needs of each genre.
    • This should take 2 to 3 months.
  • Then, the monthly salary will be $800.

This is a full-time position with a probationary period for the first two months. Therefore, we kindly request that you refrain from applying if you are currently seeking only part-time opportunities.
