Romance Novel Publishing Specialist – Scottish Genre

Historical Scottish Romance

  • If you’ve seen Outlander, then our books are very similar to that, without the fantasy elements. So no time traveling or magic of any kind.
  • It’s about romantic stories with the Scottish Highlands background, set in medieval times to 1700s.
  • Here are two of our pen names so you can get a better idea of our books:

What do we do?

We’re an online Romance Publishing House. What we do is we create the plot for a book, the scene-by-scene analysis, and all that’s needed for a book to be written. Then we hire a writer to write the book for us. The writer delivers the book in parts, and each time a part is delivered, we give our feedback and our requests for corrections. After the book is finished, we create the title, the blurb, and finally, the cover. And lastly, we publish it online and promote it! 📚

Job Description

Essentially you’ll manage the process of publishing a book, from its very beginning (creating the plot) to the end, which is promoting the finished product! The responsibilities for this position are well described below and are divided into three main sections.

Reading

  • Manuscripts of the writers we have. Our writers deliver the books in parts, so every time a part comes, you’ll have to read it and do your critique. Essentially you’ll need to read and critique the books that are written for the house. This critique will be communicated to the writer.
  • Model Books. These are books of the genre, and we need to read those for “market research” and be always good at knowing what’s a successful book for our genre. Another benefit of reading model books is that you’ll get more familiar with the genre and have more ideas for plot writing.
  • Tech Books. These are non-fiction books that will help you become a better professional.
    • Books about literature like how to write a plot, or learn about writing styles.
    • Also, self-help books about written communication, advertising, marketing, and publishing in general.

Communication

  • Professional communication. You’ll need to communicate with writers, editors, cover designers, and all kinds of professionals needed for a book to come to life.
  • Commercial communication. You’ll also need to reply to our readers in emails, website comments, and Facebook messages.

Marketing

  • Email Marketing. You’ll be creating an array of email campaigns that accompany a book launch.
  • Copywriting. You’ll be responsible for various texts that are needed for promoting a book. Some examples are the book blurb or small promotional texts used for ads that we run to promote the book.

Work Rules

  • Schedule

    • Essentially we work on deadlines. You know all tasks that need to be done, almost 1-2 months before.
    • Flexible, you can work any time you prefer, or work more the days you feel like it, and less the days you want to chill.
    • We have only 1 virtual weekly meeting.
  • No usual schedule of “off days”.
    • You don’t need permission to take a leave of absence.
    • This is a remote job you can work from any place you want.
    • But it would be best if you had at least 1hr available each day for any emergencies that may occur.
    • This applies to any holidays, birthdays, etc. Obviously, medical emergencies are an exception.
    • So, for example, if you need to be on vacation or be somewhere with limited free time for work, you’d have to set aside one hour to handle anything work-related, like checking your emails, ask for someone else to handle your emergency if you can’t do it in an hour, or help someone else if needed, etc.

Compensation

  • The first 3 months are probationary, and almost pure training. Reading 3 books per week, and start doing various tasks to get a hold of the job.
    • Salary is €500
  • Then, according to your progress, you’ll be responsible for 3-4 book launches per month.
    • Salary is €800

Bonuses

  • Each book launch has the potential to give you a bonus according to its performance in the market.
    • A good book: €75
    • A great book: €150
  • Essentially, with up to 4 book launches in a month, you can get up to €1,400 in total.
